for a long time now, photography has been a core passion of mine. capturing all of the character and life involved in a single instant is awe inspiring. i remember when i got my first film camera - a gift from my grandpa back in 2001. as i sat in my first photography class in high school, i remember being so eager to learn...i couldn't wait to take my own photos. i carried my camera almost everywhere with me then and spent most of my time in the darkroom developing pictures. unfortunately, my high school had a sparse offering of photography classes and i knew that i wanted to learn more. i eventually began taking saturday morning art classes at columbus college of art and design through their offerings, i was able to dig much deeper and learn so much more. over the years, my love for photography continued to grow.
several years of adult life and four kids later (my youngest is still twenty one months young), my passion had faded. only recently have i began reaching for my camera and rediscovering my passion, the love and desire i once yearned for. since i am involved in welcoming new life, it is only natural that i have decided to start offering birth photography as an add on service to my normal doula packages. i know, i know...call me crazy! who just dives head first into the "amazing" lighting provided by hospital rooms, but it hasn't scared me away. my passion is just as strong as it ever has been. what's really intrigued me is how much is missed on such an important day. once new life emerges, that rush of oxytocin takes over, and both mom and partner and anyone else involved checks out to a place of bliss.
so after much practice here i am offering my services to you on a special day. i am here to capture the miracle and hard work of bringing about new life. the raw emotion that arises when two people are working hard together. the look of love on each of their faces when they meet that bundle of joy for the first time. i love that i can handle the capturing of memories, while mom and partner are able to sink in and enjoy the moment.
now for the disclaimer: i am NOT a professional birth photographer. if you are looking for a professional birth photographer than i invite you to check out sarah shaumbaugh and lindsey scholz. these ladies are incredible and have dedicated there life to focus on the welcoming of new life.
